Step-by-step guide

  1. In the view Simple Storage Drives, add a new storage "Lab1-Files", click on the new storage and upload any relevant files (notebooks, datasets).
  2. in the view Docker Formations, clone "Spot - Python 3.7.0 - Jupyter" to "Lab 1"



  3. Right-click on the new Formation,  Choose "Configure", Choose the tab "Volumes & Images", Keep "Default" under "Working Volume", Select "S3" -> "Lab1-files" under "Reference Volume"; Keep "Synch" selected in case the lab files are small, to copy the files to the students home folders (Default Storage); Select "No Synch" otherwise;


  4. Click on the formation "Lab1" to launch it, once the session ready (after about two minutes), click on the lab to connect to Jupyter and find files that you have uploaded to your S3. Right-click on the session and choose Connection -> Get Connection Info, use the putty command to ssh into the container; install missing python packages Ex: sudo /opt/miniconda3/bin/pip install pandas


  5. Right-click on the session, choose Create Machine Image, Keep " Update Originator Formation On Success" checked.
  6. Open the Organizations panel, select the course-dedicated organization, choose "Actions"-> "Formation" -> "Set Default Formation UIDs" , then  choose "Lab1".
  7.  "Lab1" is now shared with students who see it on their consoles in the view Docker Formations, they can click to launch it. Alternatively, the lab can be started on all students accounts by selection the course-dedicated organization in the panel Organizations, then choose Actions -> Formation -> Launch Organization Formations
